Scope and Contents

The collection is known both as the `Denmilne State Papers` and the `Denmilne Collection`. Less formally it is often referred to as the `Denmilne Manuscripts`.

Dates: 1548-1641.

Contemporary copies of state papers, concerning the negotiations between Charles I and the Covenanters, which led up to the Pacification of Berwick and the Covenanters` protestation of 1 July.

Scope and Contents It was originally Ferguson`s intention to print Dutch text and English translation of all Dutch documents quoted, but this scheme had to be abandoned for reasons of space, and only the English translations were ultimately printed (Volume I, page xxxiii).
